2010 Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Golf Classic Raises $20,000

SYLVA, N.C. – Golfers helped raise $20,000 this week during the 2nd Annual Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Classic.

In the second year of the tournament, fifty-two golfers participated on the Arnold Palmer Signature course. The daylong event, which also included a silent auction and reception, will benefit four charitable organizations that serve residents of Jackson County.

“It was a great day and great event for us,” said Ken Costanzo, President, Balsam Mountain Preserve.  “Not only did the golfers get the opportunity to play our spectacular course, but they were able to support local charities and the really important work they do in our communities. We are proud of our success in raising $50,000 in the first two years of the event and we look forward to doing it again next year.”

The Community Table, which has been providing nutritious meals to Jackson County residents in need since 1999, is one of the four local charities to benefit from the tournament.

“The Community Table and Jackson Neighbors In Need are grateful to Balsam Mountain Preserve and all the sponsors and participants for another successful event this year.  These two charitable organizations could not carry out their missions without caring, generous neighbors like these, especially in such difficult times.  Thank you so much to everyone, and I hope to see you all again next year at the Third Annual Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Classic,” said Amy Grimes, Executive Director, The Community Table and Board Member, Jackson Neighbors In Need.

Other charities supported by the golf tournament are:

-The Jackson Neighbors In Need Save the Warmth program, which provides assistance with heating, food and water costs.

-The Balsam-Willets Ochre Hill Volunteer Fire Department, which serves Jackson County residents in fire calls, emergency calls, and as a first responder with WestCare.

-The Balsam Mountain Trust, a 501(c) (3) non-profit, which provides free environmental  education programs to Jackson County schools while overseeing 3,000 acres of conservation easement land in Jackson County.

An anonymous donor was the title sponsor and named the event in memory of Samuel Belk Chapman.

“We are thrilled, and I am personally humbled, to have such a generous and thoughtful donation as our Title Sponsor.  I believe the anonymous donor exemplifies the same caring and compassion in supporting the local community as Balsam Mountain Preserve,” Brian Chapman, Head Golf Professional, Balsam Mountain Preserve.

The Balsam Mountain Preserve Golf Course was voted Best New Course in North Carolina 2008 by the North Carolina Golf Panel and ranked 11th nationally in Golf Digest’s Best New Private Courses of 2008. Confidence Returns as the Pace of Home Construction at Balsam Surges

Three years ago, earth movers were a permanent fixture in master planned developments. Housing was hot, and rooftops were going up by the dozens. Sadly, nowadays it is rare to see construction activity in most communities, which is why it is both astonishing and exciting that at Balsam Mountain Preserve, just three months after new ownership stepped in and took control of the development following six months in foreclosure, eight homes are currently in the active phase of construction and five are in the design phase. A new beginning for Balsam Mountain and a testament to Balsam’s success and promise in what has been one of the most challenging real estate markets of the past few decades.

All over the country (including the Carolinas) there are unfinished developments with streets that dead-end at dirt and promised amenities that never got underway. Even at the peak of the market, when rows and rows of rooftops were going up, little else followed; no new roads, no amenities, just homes. Finished amenities at Balsam Mountain Preserve have been a huge draw. Buyers are attracted to the added benefits and value of being in a well-planned community with good amenities. Buyers at Balsam Mountain do not have to wait for completed amenities; they can immediately begin to enjoy a completed Signature golf course and golf practice park, 6,600 square foot Lodge and Restaurant, and a Sports Camp complete with a Junior Olympic heated pool, soft-surface tennis courts and more. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy over 30 miles of hiking trails, stream fishing and a family campsite with a large, covered, outdoor pavilion. It’s easy to see Balsam’s commitment to providing owners access to a wonderful world of natural amenities− over 3,000 acres of the 4,400-acre community have been placed in a permanent conservation easement never to be developed.

Balsam Mountain has recently re-priced home sites creating opportunities for many families who have long desired to live at BMP. In the past 90 days alone, families from Louisiana, Texas, Indiana, and North Carolina have purchased property at Balsam, with many more in the final stages of their purchase decision. Affordable pricing isn’t the only thing Balsam is doing to attract buyers, Balsam is creating more activities, more amenities, and continuing to enhance its membership plan to provide a greater value proposition for its owners.

It’s easy to see why so many families are working to complete construction of their dream homes within the gates of Balsam Mountain Preserve.

Balsam Mountain is offering family accommodations in a luxury mountaintop cabin for $199/night, which includes breakfast and the opportunity to experience a guided horseback ride on one of our private trails.
